4 Creative Christmas Decorating Themes

Picture of a front door with white Christmas lights and festive greens all twinkling to create a magical picture giving you the feeling of the season.

Now that we’ve all had our last mouthful of Thanksgiving turkey, the Christmas season is officially in full swing. Houses everywhere will soon be transformed into winter wonderlands. Are you excited about Christmas decorations, but lacking inspiration on which ones to use? Or maybe you have used the same old holiday lights year after year and you just need something fresh.

If you are looking for some unique decoration ideas to help your house stand out from the rest of the block, American Custom Contractors can help. Here are four creative Christmas decorating themes to inspire you!

Santa’s Workshop

Transform your front yard into the North Pole by adding elements from Santa’s workshop. Decorate your mailbox with garland and red ribbon. Use nails or some brick clips to hang a sign that says “Letters to Santa” or the address for Santa at the North Pole. Gift wrap some large empty boxes and stack them in piles on your front porch. Use classic red or green Christmas lights on your house or bushes. Add some cheerful light up elves  or even Santa himself in front of your house. Use chalk paint and some reclaimed wood to make a Christmas countdown sign displaying the number of days left until December 25.

White Christmas

Neutral color palettes are very trendy right now, and a monochromatic Christmas theme can help you achieve that look. Use all white Christmas lights on your house, your trees, and your bushes. Add some icicle lights to the porch or the eaves. Hang some light up snowflakes around your porch and in your trees at various heights and sizes. You can also add a projection of snowflakes falling onto the front of your house. Don’t forget to add a snowman or two on the lawn. Regardless of the actual weather, your yard will always be a winter wonderland.

Enchanted Forrest

By drawing from the natural elements in a winter forest, you can set your yard apart from the pack. If you already have lots of trees in your front yard, simply hang a few warm yellow lights in the branches of each tree. If you have a smaller suburban yard with only one or two trees, add some of these magical LED lighted birch trees. Add a few reindeer peeking out between the trees. Guide weary travelers through your forest with some glowing lanterns. Place them on your porch and in each window of your home. Decorate a twig wreath with some red ribbon, string lights, or small woodland animals and use it on your front door.  An enchanted forest look is a classy and tasteful take on yard ornaments and lights.

Gingerbread House

If you have a major sweet tooth or you love all things cute, a gingerbread house theme could be the perfect fit for your front yard this Christmas. Use rainbow multicolored lights on your roof and bushes to look like gum drops. Line your bushes or sidewalk with candy canes. Wrap red and white lights around your trees and hang some more multicolored lights in the branches to carry on the candy cane and gumdrop effect. Use red and white mesh to create a candy cane wreath for your door (or buy one). Last but not least, add some friendly gingerbread person.
