Hail Damaged Cedar Roof
American Custom Contractors was performing work in a Vienna, VA neighborhood and our Project Consultant approached the owner of a home with a cedar shake roof. The cedar shake roof was nearing the end of its serviceable lifespan, but it also showed a lot of damage from the hail impacts. Our Project Consultants have been trained and certified by the HAAG Residential Roof Inspector program to be able to identify and isolate damages from hail, wind, snow, ice and other storms.

Our Project Consultant worked with the homeowner to submit a claim with the insurance company. The initial estimate received from the insurance company left out several key components of the roof system that required replacement due to damage. In addition American Custom Contractors insured that any changes necessary due to local or regional building codes were included in the final settlement. We replaced the roof with a Medium CCA cedar shake roof. CCA, or chromated copper arsenic, is a chemical preservative that is used to protect wood from termites and other wood-boring insects.
During the process of the replacement we found that the roof deck under the original roof was rotted and damaged in several places, which was not a surprise considering the age and condition of the roof. We consulted with the homeowner and advised that they would need to be replaced before we proceeded with the project. Additionally the homeowner requested that we replace some damaged fascia board on the home. The difference between the final project and the original home is striking, and the homeowners were thrilled with the ease of the entire insurance process.
