Project Spotlight
American Custom Contractors was contacted by several homeowners living in a Reston community who had concerns about their cedar shake roofs. All of the roofs were approximately 20 years old and showing signs of aging and weathering. Additionally, some of the homeowners had noticed missing shingles , had concerns about damage to their roof from animals, and there was curling and cupping visible from the street level.
Owner, William Giakoumatos, completed the inspections of the properties, including an interior evaluation of the attic space to determine the ventilation requirements for each home. Since these homes were all built at approximately the same time, it was no surprise to see similar problems in many of the roofs. After proposing a few solutions the homeowners each opted for the cedar shake product that best fit their home’s need and their personal budgets. Most of the homeowners opted to use a Medium CCA Treated cedar shake product. The CCA Treatment is a preservative that inhibits the growth of mold, fungus, mildew and also helps to deter insects and vermin.
Several of the homeowners also opted to have their gutters and downspouts replaced at the same time, which we were able to coordinate to complete immediately after the roof replacements, making the entire process as easy as possible for the homeowners. Everyone is extremely happy with their new roofs and we are thrilled with the improvements we were able to make for these Reston, VA homeowners.
