Saltbox Style Home Gets New Roof

When the Carroll Family contacted American Custom Contractors they were becoming skeptical about whether they would be able to find a contractor to help them with their renovation project.  The recent purchase of their Saltbox Style Home was looking to be a “money-pit”, a result of the home inspector failing to divulge many items that would need to be addressed.  Sitting on an 18 acre, heavily wooded lot, the custom home was a Saltbox Style, meaning no access to an attic and no crawlspace.  Because of the home’s unique architectural features, the Carroll’s were told my many contractors that they would not be able to assist them with the project.

Although Mr. Carroll had completed some extensive research online, he found too many conflicting arguments to determine whether a roof replacement was necessary.  He had identified some visible signs of aging on his roof, including moss growth, but did not notice any leaks on the interior walls of the home.  Because the home sits on an 18 acre wooded lot and he knew he would have future renovation projects to attend to, he wanted something that was maintenance free, so he could focus on other components of the home.

Our Project Manager met with the Carroll Family and completed a needs assessment to determine if they would be in need of a roof repair or roof replacement.  Our inspection found that the moss growth on the home was severely compromising the integrity of the roof system.  In addition, the cedar shakes had started to split and warp, which increase the risk for leaks.  The Carroll Family decided to replace their roof system with a new lifetime warranty architectural roof system.  In addition, they opted to replace their gutters and install a gutter cover system.  Since their home is situated in a heavily wooded area, the gutter cover system would help save them time by not requiring their gutters to be cleaned.

The Carroll’s were thrilled with the finished project.  “My wife and I solicited quotations from five different companies…they all had different ideas for the type of shingle, underlayment, etc.  Not knowing much about roofs in general, I knew my decision was not going to be easy, even after spending a lot of time on the internet researching materials.  American Custom Contractors spent a considerable amount of time with me answering questions…they spent a countless amount of hours answering my questions…this was the best decision I ever made”.
