How can we select the best contractor for our project?
The first step in selecting a qualified contractor for your commercial property is to determine which companies you want to request estimates from. You can find companies qualified to perform commercial projects through referrals, Property Management Associations or the Chamber of Commerce.
Many Property Managers or Project Managers rely on the “3-bid system”, where bids are collected from three companies and the one with the most competitive price and most soonest date of start is chosen. Unfortunately this can result in a poorly managed project where lack of communication about the details of the scope of work can result in an unsatisfied customer.
We recommend that you read Certified Contractors Network’s guide on How to Make a Successful Construction Investment prior to starting the contractor interview process. Contact us today to request your free copy.
What criteria should a qualified contractor fulfill?
There are many criteria that you should use to evaluate each contractor you receive a bid from. Some of these are dependent on the project you have planned, but there are some standards that every contractor you consider should meet.
- Insurance – Does the contractor have adequate insurance?
- Licenses – Is the contractor licensed in your jurisdiction?
- Installation Standards – What installation standards does the contractor follow for each product?
- Referrals – Has the contractor completed projects in similar size or scope, and have they completed projects for commercial properties?
Contact American Custom Contractors to schedule a meeting to discuss your project. We will review the project details and specifications, complete a site visit and assessment, and proceed with providing cost effective options for your project, without sacrificing the quality of the craftsmanship.
